DROP 001, LES VENDEUSES DE SOLEIL
Dear Nirie Tribe,
In the heart of Dakar, where the vibrant streets hum with life, a young girl named Sili begins her day. The air is thick with the scent of spices and the calls of street vendors, painting a scene of lively chaos. This is where our journey starts, inspired by the resilience and grace of Sili, the protagonist of a cherished film.
Her story, much like the stories woven into each of our garments, is one of strength, beauty, and unwavering spirit.
Sili’s Story: The Heart of Our Collection
Sili is more than a character; she is a symbol of hope and determination. As she navigates the bustling markets of Dakar, her eyes shine with an indomitable spirit. She represents the essence of Senegalese women, whose resilience and grace inspire each of our designs.
The film that chronicles Sili’s journey captures the soul of Dakar—the laughter, the struggles, and the unbreakable bonds of community. It is from this rich tapestry of life that our first collection, Les Vendeuses de Soleil, draws inspiration.
Craftsmanship Rooted in Tradition
In a quaint atelier nestled amidst the bustling streets of Dakar, our journey begins. At NIRIE, each garment is a labor of love (and plenty of trial and error!), meticulously handcrafted by two skilled artisans, Abdoulaye and Assane. We source our fabrics from surplus couture houses, acquire deadstock through auction sales, and explore local markets like Sandaga in Dakar. Our materials include vintage laces, embroideries, and reclaimed trims sourced from car boot sales, vintage shops, and repurposed from old napkins and curtains. Each piece embodies our commitment to sustainability and heritage, ensuring every item is unique and rich with history.
The Signature White
White, in all its shades and subtleties, forms the canvas of our creations. In Senegalese culture, white symbolizes unity, spirituality, and purity. Our garments, varying in shades from the bright, sunlit hues of Dakar to the soft, creamy tones of traditional fabrics, reflect this symbolism. Each piece tells a different story, just as each woman who wears them brings her own narrative to life.
The Petit Boubou: A Modern Classic
Among our cherished designs is the Petit Boubou, a traditional Senegalese garment that has been lovingly reimagined for today’s woman. Marie, (my mum) the heart and soul of our atelier, infuses each Petit Boubou with a blend of classic and contemporary elements. Made-to-order and tailored to perfection, these garments celebrate individuality and elegance. Each Petit Boubou is a unique work of art, carrying the legacy of Senegalese tradition into the modern world.

Embracing the Spirit of Teranga
In every stitch, Teranga—the Senegalese value of warmth and generosity—shines through. Our collaboration with local artisans not only showcases their exceptional skills but also embodies Dakar’s hospitality. Together, we craft pieces that resonate with authenticity and heart.
Join our Community
As you delve into Les Vendeuses de Soleil, we extend a warm invitation to join the NIRIE community. Each piece transcends mere clothing; it carries with it a narrative, a homage to heritage, and a testament to enduring style. Thank you for joining us and reading this till the end!
